5/5/07 - HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY SEATTLE SLEW

We are celebrating Seattle Slew's 30th anniversary of his undefeated Kentucky

Derby victory.

We were so fortunate to be your owners and caretakers. You had a great heart,

brilliant speed, courage, and always wanted to be in front.  You loved to race.

I remember Derby week with all the reporters and TV crews at the barn

following you everywhere.  You were always so private while in your own stall,

but when you came out you knew you were king.  It was hot as you walked from

the barn to the paddock.  In the paddock, sweat washed off you as though

someone was running a hose on you.  I knew you weren't nervous because

you weren't shaking, but we were.

In our hearts we knew you were the best horse in the world.  In the mornings you

galloped with Mike Kennedy like a freight train, but you still needed racing luck.

You had your own cheering section.  You had 100 loggers and Gators from

Seattle to Florida rooting for you.  As Chick Anderson announced that Seattle

Slew broke slowly, nearly unseating Cruguet, I couldn't find you, but you charged

through horses to the front.  You looked back at For The Moment and Angel

Cordero with that "eye" of yours and the rest was history.

We were so proud of you.  You fulfilled your destiny and now your legend

lives on.

Looking back to the Derby in 1977 we have so many to thank:

Billy Turner, Mike Kennedy, John Polston, Jean Cruguet, Chet and Leola Taylor,

Ellen and Delmar Pearson, Sr., Delmar Pearson, Jr., Donald Carroll and the

Slew Crew, but we owe it all to you Seattle Slew.  OH HOW YOU FLEW!

God Bless You and Happy Anniversary.

Love,

Karen and Mickey
