6/29/10 - Californian Victory Keeps Rail Trip Perfect in 2010

Five-year-old RAIL TRIP (Jump Start) improved on last year's showing in the Californian Stakes (G2) by taking the June 12, 2010, $150,000 edition by 2 3/4 lengths. Stalking the pace over his favored fast all-weather surface at Hollywood Park, the bay gelding took command into the stretch and drew away for the daylight victory, completing 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 2/5.

Slew's Tiznow (Tiznow) closed well to just miss second in the field of eight.

Rail Trip boasts eight wins from 11 starts and earnings of more than $960,000. Last year, he captured the Hollywood Gold Cup (G1) and Santana Mile Handicap, ran second in the Californian and Mervyn Leroy Handicap (G2), and finished third in the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1). He began his 2010 campaign with a win in this season's Mervyn Leroy.

A great-grandson of Seattle Slew, Rail Trip was bred in Kentucky. He is the first foal for Sweet Trip (Carson City), who is also the dam of the unraced juvenile filly Stellar Trip (Stormy Atlantic).

The Slew Crew congratulates Rail Trip, owner Jay Em Ess Stable, breeder Donarra Thoroughbreds, trainer Ron Ellis, jockey Rafael Bejarano and the rest of the gelding's connections. We wish you continued success.
