7/7/08 - Screen Your Friend Wins Bashford Manor

Two-year-old Screen Your Friend (Friends Lake) became the first stakes winner for his sire when he captured the Bashford Manor Stakes (G3) Saturday at Churchill Downs. Ridden by Calvin Borel - who earned his 4,500 win aboard the colt - Screen Your Friend completed the six furlongs in 1:10 4/5 over the fast track.

Screen Your Friend broke well, quickly took command on the lead and then turned back a challenge on the turn before pulling away down the stretch. As the wire approached, Screen Your Friend held sway and crossed under the line 1 1/4 lengths in front.

Screen Your Friend, who broke his maiden last out on June 4, is from the first crop of Friends Lake and was produced from the Rare Performer mare Screen Prospect. Friends Lake (A.P. Indy), winner of the 2004 Florida Derby (G1), is out of Antespend (Spend a Buck), a multiple Grade 1 winner on the turf and dirt. Friends Lake stands at Airdrie Stud, where his 2008 fee was $15,000.

The Slew Crew congratulates Screen Your Friend, owner/breeder William Carl, trainer Bernie Flint, jockey Calvin Borel and all of the colt's connections. We wish them best of luck in the future.
