Remembering Slew's Belmont Win
Slew,
We are remembering your Belmont day in 1977. We were concerned about the mud but knew you loved Belmont Park. You won the Champagne Stakes there the year before, going one mile in 1:34 2/5.
You always did things your way, so when Billy was late, you took your time getting to the paddock. You were late and we were worried.
But you did not disappoint. You did your war dance in the paddock and your New York fans were thrilled! You were a true New Yorker. You and Mike Kennedy were quite the powerhouse team every morning at Belmont. You were at home there.
You loved to race and you wanted nothing but to be in front. You were simply you, Slew, and you had a destiny to fulfill on that Belmont Day.
You made history on June 11, 1977. You became the only undefeated Triple Crown winner on that day. We were so proud of you!
We have a lifetime of memories with you. You were the greatest! We miss you and love you with all our hearts.
Yesterday, a "slew" of your progeny were competing in the 155th Belmont Stakes and we were cheering each one on for you.
God Bless you, Seattle Slew.
Love Karen and Mickey and the Slew Crew
